What Murray is built out of.

ASARCO ran a smelter at 5200 South State Street from 1902 until it closed in 1950, and the housing around old downtown Murray was built for the people who worked it — small pre-war cottages, boarding houses, and rental stock along streets like Poplar. After the smelter closed, State Street became auto row, I-15 came through in the 1960s, Fashion Place followed in the 1970s, and Murray filled in around all of it.

The post-war stock is mostly simple FHA-guideline brick boxes with Minimal Traditional detailing. There's also a genuinely unusual pocket of concrete block houses — the Buehner Cinder Block Company was set up in Murray to supply block for the smelter's stacks and moved into speculative tract housing with the leftover capacity.

Concrete block matters on a demo quote. It behaves nothing like a stud wall, it's heavier than people expect, and it changes both the method and the debris volume. Worth knowing before somebody gives you a number over the phone.

What that means for the work.

Small-lot cottage cleanouts
Pre-war houses near downtown, often rentals for decades, often full.
Block and masonry demo
Murray's concrete-block stock changes the method and the debris weight. Quoted accordingly.
Garage and carport teardown
Post-war additions that have outlived the house's needs.
